Kemi Filani’s Best Nigerian Movies that made it to Netflix in 2020

Over the past year, Netflix started to take the Nigerian movie market more seriously. This move saw the company stream its first Nollywood movie in 2018.


The company has also started producing her own original Nollywood movies.


Due to the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic the movie industry suffered a great loss and movie lovers had to adopt Netflix to movies keep themselves entertained. Filmmakers also pushed lots of their movies to Netflix.


Here are Kemi Filani’s top 10 Nollywood Movies on Netflix for year 2020.

Citation

Citation is a decent movie about an intelligent young Master’s student, Moremi, played for Temi Otedola, who speaks out after a university don, Lucien N’Dyare (Jimmy Jean-Louis), attempts to rape her and her many attempts to break free from the web of lies spun by the main character, Jimmy Jean-Louis.

Òlòturé

Òlòturé, may be one of their most daring yet produced in Nollywood. The heavy Nigerian drama tells the story of the titular Òlòturé, a naive young journalist who believes she can expose politicians and other individuals with dirty hands by going undercover as a sex worker.

Elevator Baby

The award winning movie tells the story of Dare (Timini Egbuson), a privileged young man with a fiery temper, who got stuck in a faulty elevator with a semi-literate pregnant woman in labour (Toyin Abraham). Dare is left with no choice but to try and save both mother and child. This experience brings him face to face with his inner demons Starring Shaffy Bello, Yemi Solade, Emem Ufot, Blessing Obasi, Broda Shaggi, Sambassa Nzeribe, and Ijeoma Aniebo.

Cold Feet

Cold Feet is the story of a loving husband, Mayowa (Jim Iyke), who takes his wife of five years, Omoye (Joselyn Dumas), on a trip to a resort to celebrate her birthday and their anniversary. While over there she meets an old flame of hers, Tare (Enyinna Nwigwe), who was initially there to propose to his girlfriend (Beverly Naya) but changes his mind upon seeing his old flames.

The SetUp

The SetUp is a movie with a lot of twists and turns. Produced by Anakle Films, it started showing on Netflix from April 22nd, 2020. The movie features Nollywood stars like Jim Iyke, Adesua Etomi, Dakore Akande. And its storyline is around crime.

Lionheart

Lionheart was the first Nollywood movie to stream on Netflix. It was produced and directed by popular actress, Genevieve Nnaji. And it talks about a lady that steps up to run the family’s business when her father becomes ill.

King Of Boys

 Although released back in 2018, the gangster epic movie stormed Netflix with a bang. The movie is focused on power tussle telling the story of a businesswoman and philanthropist named Alhaja Eniola Salami (played by Nollywood veteran Sola Sobowale) with growing political ambitions.

UpNorth

It tells the story of a pampered heir who must complete his National Youth Service to inherit his father’s wealth. But in the process of doing that in an unfamiliar region, he created new goals for himself.

The Bling Lagosians

Modeling the lives of Lagos’ wealthiest people, this movie tells of how a family debt threatens their business and legacy. The Bling Lagosians features stellar actors and actresses like Elvina Ibru, Gbenga Titiloye, Sharon Ooja, and more.

Moms At War

This movie starring Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele, Yul Edochie, speaks of two mothers who become rivals when a school contest forces their kids to compete.
