Ayra Starr speaks on meeting Rihanna

Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has recounted her first meeting with American singer and businesswoman Rihanna.

Kemi Filani reported in April that the Mavins singer had met the billionaire singer at the launch of her Fenty business in London. Ayra, who was star-struck, couldn’t believe her eyes as she met with the mother of two, whom she hugged and pecked as they posed for the camera.

Speaking on it in an interview with ABC News Live, Ayra said she never knew Rihanna was real until she saw her. She stressed that she didn’t know Rihanna was a human being like her.

She went on to show encomium on the partner of ASAP Rocky, describing her as beautiful and amazing. She further disclosed that Rihanna gave her career advice, which she would keep to herself.

“I have a lot of pitch-me moments. I just met Rihanna the other day. I didn’t think she was real, and I was like you are a human being just like me, beautiful and amazing. We talked about my career, and she gave me advice, but I can’t tell”.

For the past few weeks, Ayra Starr has been doing many linkups, as just a few days before meeting Rihanna, she had linked up with her colleague, Tems. Ayra had posted a video of herself singing one of her songs alongside Tems, breaking the internet. The random link-up was not something that could’ve been easily foreseen, and netizens were beyond pleased to see both of them together.

Also, Ayra Starr had linked up with American actor Jaden Smith. The two set the internet on fire with a video of them vibing to her song, Comma.

Just recently, she had linked up with popular online streamer Kai Cenat at Nicki Minaj’s concert, and the internet blew up over the link.

In September 2023, Ayra declined to accept her Headies award because it wasn’t announced on stage. She publicly refused to accept the award, stating that she would not show gratitude for an honour not deemed worthy of being announced on the main stage. Ayra Starr went on to highlight the disparity between her treatment and male artists receiving recognition on-stage.
