Qatar 2022: Laporta highlights Barca’s role in Spain’s World Cup success

Spain’s squad contains a sizable number of players from Barcelona who can help the team win the World Cup, according to Joan Laporta.

The 2010 champions are just one victory away from advancing to the knockout round after crushing Costa Rica 7-0 and drawing 1-1 with Germany.

In the first two games, young Barca midfielders Gavi and Pedri have stood out, and Ferran Torres scored twice against Costa Rica.

Laporta expressed his satisfaction with their efforts, and the president of Barcelona believes that the success of Spain’s performances is due to the efforts of head coach Xavi at the club level.

“I think it’s fantastic. It gives pride for Barcelona to see how the national team is playing and how our players are doing,” he told AS.

“[Spain head coach] Luis Enrique has been able to take on all the pressure, which is a way to relieve all the pressure on the players.

“He has been very brave betting on very young players who are falling in love with the world and it just so happens that most are from Barca.

“The good role of Luis Enrique’s national team is also thanks to the good work that Xavi is doing in Barcelona, where there are the most players.

“For me, Spain, along with Brazil and France, are the big favourites of the tournament.”

In their final group match, Spain takes on Japan, and a win would guarantee first place.
